IRCC Conducts First French-Language Express Entry Draw of December

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has invited 800 candidates in a category-based Express Entry draw focused on French-language proficiency. This draw, held on December 3, required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 466.

This is the second Express Entry draw of the month, following a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on December 2, where 676 invitations were issued with a minimum CRS score of 705.

Highlights of Recent Express Entry Activity

In November, IRCC conducted six Express Entry draws, issuing a total of 5,507 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence. These draws targeted various categories, including the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), PNP, and French-language proficiency, reflecting Canada’s emphasis on attracting skilled workers and French-speaking immigrants.

The recently introduced “In-Canada” focus category is expected to prioritize candidates in the CEC, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). This aligns with Canada’s 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan, which includes increased allocations for French-speaking applicants outside Quebec. PR admissions for this group are projected to rise to 29,235 in 2025, with further increases planned for 2026 and 2027.

Summary of December Express Entry Draws

  • December 3: French-language proficiency – 800 ITAs, CRS 466
  • December 2: Provincial Nominee Program – 676 ITAs, CRS 705

Express Entry remains a vital tool for managing applications for Canadian permanent residency through federal economic programs, including the CEC, FSWP, and FSTP. Enhanced provincial nominations continue to play a significant role, adding 600 CRS points and improving candidates’ chances of receiving an ITA.
